Castiel, for instance, could not stop thinking about his vessel’s child, Claire, despite Dean telling him to forget the ones he couldn’t save.

But, come on, does that sound like the Castiel we know and love?

Cas sprung a troubled Claire from her group home (after telling her supervisor he fights “certain deadly threats” for a living), only to have her steal his wallet and make a run for it.

Enter a call to Dean and Sam for assistance.

Dean thinks his pal is going through a “midlife crisis,” but Castiel later gets him to admit that the Mark of Cain instill affecting him.

Dean then makes his friend vow to take him out if he goes dark side because “I can’t be that thing again."

As you’ll see when you watch Supernatural online, the trio track down Claire. She’s at a loss as to why her dad her to die for some concept of the greater good. It’s an understandable question.

She’s gone back to her friend’s foster father, who is using Claire to steal for him in order to pay back his loan shark. In her mind, however, he’s actually family because an imperfect dad is better than no dad at all… right?

Wrong. Especially when he tries to sell her to the loan sharks.

Castiel and the brothers arrive in time to save her, but Dean’s nasty side is triggered when a thug clubs him in the head. When Sam returns, he sees his sibling kneeling amidst a bunch of corpses.

Did he HAVE to do this, Sam asks? Dean’s answer is vague and we’re left to wonder if Castiel will do good on his promise once Supernatural returns on January 20.

IN HELL, meanwhile, Rowena and Crowley’s family reunion doesn’t get off to a strong start.

Crowley believes his mother hates him – she did nearly trade him for three pigs – she insists that a disagreement with the locals forced her to leave him at eight with no father.

“I’ll always be your mother, and I’ll always love you,” Rowena says before manipulating Crowley into a reconciliation by telling him his right hand man has been smuggling souls up from Hell.
